Today we welcome Sandra Adroin, historical romance writer and blogger, to 3 Questions Wednesday.
(1) Do you watch reality television? Why or why not?
Sandra: This may get me in trouble with the Survivor set, but I’ve never been a fan of reality television shows. I will, on rare occasions, watch a few minutes of American Idol or Dancing with the Stars (very few minutes)—if you consider them reality shows.
While I enjoy competition and competitive sports, the commercials for most reality shows turn me off when they play up the worst traits in people: bickering, a ruthless, winner-take-all attitude, celebrating in the failures of others—at least on the commercials. Television, like reading fiction, is an escape for me. I like to sink into the unreal lives of people, and tend to even avoid the “based on a true story” movies.
(2) What are your thoughts on e-publishing?
Sandra: I have no personal experience with e-publishing. Some authors have found it to be a good way to recycle out-of-print books. Some use it as a marketing tool for upcoming releases by e-publishing a novella or short story related to their book. Others regularly write and offer e-books. All of that makes sense to me as long as what is offered is of high quality.
I have a Kindle app and enjoy being able to download books. But my preference is for print books because I can take them anywhere. Sometimes, I’ll grab a book and read a few paragraphs (gasp!) while waiting for a stop light to change. Yes, that could have been me you honked at!
(3) Which do you prefer? Facebook or Twitter?
Sandra: I came late to Facebook, putting it off until my agent said it was a must. Now I’ve found that it’s wonderful for keeping up with family members and friends who live elsewhere. I like Twitter, but it isn’t always the best place for socializing. It seems most of the tweets I get (and I must admit, produce) involve promotion. However, I wish I had as many followers on Facebook as I do Twitter.
