Today we welcome Lisa Hess, author and blogger, to 3 Questions Wednesday.
(1) Do you watch reality television? Why or why not?
Lisa: I used to watch American Idol, but haven’t gotten back into it since Simon Cowell left the show. I enjoy Dancing With the Stars, but other than that, I don’t watch reality television. I prefer watching shows that tell ongoing stories with characters I can feel an affection for or connection with – everything from The Young and the Restless to Castle and Grey’s Anatomy.
(2) What are your thoughts on e-publishing?
Lisa: Since I just signed a publishing contract that is e-book-centric, I have to say I love it! All joking aside, I like the fact that e-publishing gives authors the flexibility of self-publishing without the huge outlay of cash.
That said, it’s very easy to e-publish poorly, especially when you’re doing it yourself. A writer has to know her strengths and weaknesses and be wise enough to subcontract the things she’s not so good at. For me, that would be cover art and layout. And no writer should ever publish anything that hasn’t been edited by someone besides herself, particularly if it has suffered multiple rejections. I pride myself on good grammar and spelling, but the longer I work with my editor, the more I learn what I don’t know.
(3) Which do you prefer? Facebook or Twitter?
Lisa: I’m a Facebook addict. I enjoy Twitter as well – I especially enjoyed following the conversation there during the Presidential debates – but I’m still finding my way on Twitter, and I am totally lost on Pinterest!
Thank you, Lisa, for joining us on 3 Questions Wednesday! Leave a comment for a chance to win an autographed copy of Acting Assertively.
