Today we welcome Jennifer Slattery, author and freelance writer, to 3 Questions Wednesday.
(1) What is your favorite book? [Bible excluded]
Jennifer: Oh, my. You mean my favorite-favorite? I’d have to say whatever one I’m reading at the time. I’m reading Uncle Tom’s Cabin right now and am really enjoying it. It’s making me think, not just about the atrocities that went on during the time period it’s set in, but that continue to occur today. (Human trafficking still exists.) I also really enjoyed Misery Loves Company by Rene Gutteridge, River Rising by Athol Dickson, and Crazy Love by Francis Chan. Oh, and By the Waters of Kadesh by Carole Towriss, and God Meant it For Good by RT Kendall, and… 😉
(2) If you could walk into any book, what literary character would you want to be?
Jennifer: Hm… I’d say Eugena “Skeeter” Phelan from The Help, and not just because she’s a writer. 🙂 I really admired her courage (though I realize the women who shared their stories had even more courage!). More than that, I felt inspired to use my gifts to right wrong, and I walked away wanting to be a better–and more authentic–writing. Although I hope I always write about stuff that really matters, Skeeter made me want to do that even more so.
(3) If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Jennifer: This might sound boring, but I love going back to Seattle, one of my favorite cities. I have so many memories there, and I love the eclectic, unique culture. My hubby and I have had some great, romantic get-aways in the rainy city, and God-willing, we plan to go back next fall to celebrate our twentieth anniversary. What about you? Do you have any dream vacations in the works?
Jennifer H.: I’m working on a trip to Anchorage, AK to visit my brother and his family. 🙂
Thanks, Jennifer, For joining us on 3 Questions Wednesday!
Will seeing beyond the present unite them or tear them apart?
Marriage . . . it’s more than a happily ever after. Eternally more.
Ainsley Meadows, raised by a hedonist mother, who cycles through jobs and relationships like wrapping paper on Christmas morning, falls into a predictable and safe relationship with Richard, a self-absorbed socialite psychiatrist. But as her wedding nears, a battered woman and her child spark a long-forgotten dream and ignite a hidden passion. One that threatens to change everything, including her fiancé. To embrace God’s best and find true love, this security-seeking bride must follow God with reckless abandon and realize that marriage goes Beyond I Do.
