3 Questions Wednesday with Marji Laine

Marji LaineToday we welcome author Marji Laine, to 3 Questions Wednesday!

Hi Marji! So glad you dropped by! First question:

Which author would you never get tired of, and why?

Marji: Dana Mentink – her stories have the perfect balance of mystery, suspense, and romance with all three of the elements amped up to an intensity I don’t find in many other books. And she does something with her twists that usually leave me reeling! I’ve never been able to unravel one of her mysteries ahead of time. I’ve come close, but she’s always got a thicker knot than I expect.

I do enjoy a good plot twist. Or a great villain.

Who is your favorite fictional villain?

Marji:  That’s a hard question. In Christian fiction, I think it’s important to have villains who are as realistic as the heroes. In other words, they have goals and values along with positive character traits in the midst of the major negative traits. However, I have to admit that the villains that make it to my favorite category are the ones that scare the devil out of me. And for those, I go to movies: the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz gets top pick with Snow White’s wicked queen and Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent tying for a close second.

The Wicked Witch of the West is hard to beat. 🙂 Seriously, she hates dogs. Anyway, enough about villains.

What project are you currently working on?

Marji: I have just (and I do mean JUST) finished the second book in my indie-pubbed novella Grime Fighter series. I’m so excited about this story, and I love these characters. My first one, Grime Beat, introduced a mystery-loving crime-scene cleaner who is full of secrets. The second one throws her into the center of a killing spree that hits way too close to home. And especially for your readers, I’m revealing the title of this new story: Grime Wave. You heard it here first!
Other than that story, I’m also working on a collaboration with authors from Write Integrity Press – LIKE YOU ARE, JENNIFER! 🙂 Our newest novella collaboration will be revealed a chapter at a time during this month. And that’s going to be a BLAST!
And finally, I have another novella to be included in a collection by local authors headed by Lena Nelson Dooley. The “Warm Mulled Kisses” collection should be out early in the Christmas season.
Sounds like a lot of work. But I’m excited about the collaboration from Write Integrity Press also! If you’d like a chance to win an E copy of Marji’s book, Grime Beat, please leave a comment.

Her best friend missing, every cell in Dani Foster’s body screams something is wrong.

Crime scene cleaning is the perfect job for neat-nick Dani Foster. But her orders to maintain a low profile and stay out of trouble mean little when her friend goes missing. Suspicions point to the handsome crime scene specialist, Jay Hunter, but he’s also the only person willing to help Dani. Dare she trust him even when lies seem to surround him?

Dani amuses Jay. Her penchant for speaking and acting without regard to the consequences land her in the funniest situations. But her latest moves have thrust her into serious danger. As he learns more about her circumstances, her risk rises until her very life is on the line. He has no time or inclination for romance, but this girl needs him and she seems to have no one else. How can he turn his back?

Marji Laine is a homeschooling mom with teenage twins left in the nest. Having just released her debut novella Grime Beat, she spends her non-writing transporting to and from volleyball, teaching writing classes at a local coop, and directing the children’s music program at her church. Raised in suburban Dallas, she got her first taste of writing through the stories of brilliant authors of their day, Mignon Eberhart and Phyllis A. Whitney, and through stage experience. After directing and acting in productions for decades, Marji started writing her own scripts. From that early beginning, she delved into creating scintillating suspense with a side of Texas sassy. She invites readers to unravel their inspiration, seeking a deeper knowledge of the Lord’s Great Mystery that invites us all.
