3 Questions Wednesday with Katie Clark

Katie Clark Author PhotoHappy Wednesday! It’s my pleasure to welcome the author of Whispering Tower, Katie Clark, to the Inspired Prompt. Good morning, Katie.

Now Katie, here’s your first question:

Who is your favorite author?

Katie:  My favorite author is probably Lisa T. Bergren. I look forward to her books, and I always love them. They’re a great blend of romance, action, and adventure!

These are my favorite type of books to take to the beach with me:) Next question,

If you could write about anyone or anything fiction/nonfiction who or what would you write about?

Katie:  I would love to be a travel writer—as in, travel around the world and get paid to write about my journeys. Wouldn’t that be a cool job?!

globe-trotter-1828079_1280

Yes it would!!  #dreamjob  and on to question #3…..

If you could spend time with a character from your book or another book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?

Katie:  Thinking about my new book, Whispering Tower, I wouldn’t mind hanging out with my main characters Skye and Philip—particularly while they’re stuck in the past. Of course, I’d only want to hang out with them there if I had the assurance I’d get to come back to the present!

That does sound like a fun day!   Thank you, Katie, for taking time to answer our three questions.

Whispering Tower

Stuck in London for one of her mom’s work trips, Skye Humphries can’t help holding a grudge when she ends up roped into a summer tour group with Philip-who-crushed-her-heart. But when Skye and Philip find themselves barreling through time after unsuspectingly opening the veil between the past and present, they’re thrust into a world where Skye’s very life is in danger. If she’d known her choices were between summering with Philip or being sacrificed to the god of the skies, Skye might have changed her attitude. Now she must figure out what’s most important to her—getting even for the past or having a future.

3 Questions Wednesday with Katie Clark

It’s my pleasure to welcome Katie Clark to 3 Questions Wednesday. Stay tuned to find out more about Katie and today’s giveaway.

DSC_8889Good morning, Katie! Can you describe yourself in three words?

Hopeful, determined, boring (hee hee!)

I don’t think anyone who writes fantasy could be boring. (Laughing)  Next question…

Someone offers you a fully-paid writing research trip to any place you desire to go. Where would it be and why?

Oooh! Tough one. My favorite place is Disney World (no judgment, right?), but that’s not really where I’d choose to go if someone was offering a fully-paid trip. I think I would choose Europe. I love rich history, and I want to see the castles! Those things would help me in my fantasy and sci-fi writings.

We’re not judging. 😉 Europe would be fun too. Now…

If someone made a movie of your life, what would be the theme song?

For some reason, the Jeopardy song keeps going through my head. Ha! Seriously though, I’m going back and forth between “It Is Well With My Soul” and that song that goes, “I get knocked down, but I get up again…” (sorry, I don’t know what that song is called…wait, I have this neat thing called Google. Hold on while I Google it…wait a sec, it’s called “Tubthumping?” OK, let’s go with “It Is Well With My Soul.”)

“Tubthumping” is a new one for me. “It Is Well With My Soul” is a good one. Katie, thank you for joining us today on Inspired Prompt.

Roanna becomes locked in a battle between kingdoms. Rebels wish to eliminate people who possess powerful anomalies. With threats growing daily, Roanna comes to realize the danger she is in—not to mention how her own family, and Benjamin’s, would react if her anomaly was revealed.

Tensions rise when Lox is attacked. If Roanna is to save herself and her future, she must stall her marriage and squelch the growing rebellion—all while discovering how deeply her power runs. But will Prince Benjamin and her family accept her when the truth of her heritage is finally revealed?

3 Questions Wednesday with Katie Clark

My friend, author Katie Clark, is our guest today. She has a brand new book releasing called Securing the Handyman’s Heart.

With great pleasure, we welcome her to 3 Questions Wednesday!

First question–

What inspires you?

Katie: Life! Adventure, love, humor, pain…life. When I see something that evokes passion in others, it automatically gets my mind to moving with inspiration.

Love that thought. 🙂 Now…

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Katie: Wow! That is a toughie! I think, though, playing off my last answer, that maybe I’d be a deep shade of red called Passion. Too cliché? *shrugs*

I agree. Life could definitely be colored red. Last question…

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Katie: All. The. Things. Haha 😊. I wanted to be a writer (yep, I was writing stories even in grade school), a business woman (I always wanted to wear smart suits with my hair in an up-do), a secretary (I’m not sure why, that just always seemed glamorous to my child-brain)…the list goes on. But I guess, looking back, it means I was always a dreamer. Through books I can be all these things and more!

I haven’t thought of it that way. Great answer! Thanks so much for stopping in today!

Katie is graciously offering a Kindle copy of her book, Securing the Handyman’s Heart to one person who leaves a comment. It could be you!

Securing the Handyman’s Heart

Local cupcake queen Kayla Dobbs is feeling the heat—just as her bakery is finally taking off, her retired parents start pressuring her to move to Florida. Determined to prove her success, she takes on extra work at the bakery and fibs a little about the depth of her love life. When her mother announces an upcoming visit to meet the lucky guy, Kayla makes a pact with her friends to get a proposal from George Marks, town handyman extraordinaire. The problem is, George seems totally indifferent.

George Marks has enough on his plate with running his business, taking care of an ailing but feisty grandmother, and the possibility of a new business venture on the horizon. But when bumping into Kayla becomes a strangely routine thing, he’s surprised to realize it has also become the highlight of his days. As business spirals out of control and Granny takes a turn for the worse, he’s sure he made one too many commitments.

With a dash of matchmaking granny and a pinch of secret cupcake recipe, Kayla and George find themselves in one messy kitchen. But will they find themselves in love?

Shadowed Eden by Katie Clark

DSC_8889Today I’d like to introduce my friend, Alabama author, Katie Clark.  We’re featuring her latest YA release, Shadowed Eden.

Hi, Katie! How long have you been writing?

Katie: It sounds cliché, but I’ve been writing stories since I was about 7 years old. I can actually quote my first “story” by heart still! Professionally, though, I’ve been writing for six years. My first published piece was thirteen years ago.

Why did you choose to write in your particular field or genre?

Katie: It wasn’t on purpose! I had written a few romance manuscripts that were really terrible (I know that now; I did not know it then). But nothing clicked for me. That was back thirteen years ago. Fast forward five or six years, and a friend recommended a book to me. It was a young adult sci-fi novel (I had never read young adult before, and certainly never sci-fi!). I fell in love with the genre. I still love romance, but I had found a genre that really clicked in my head. Now I focus on young adult sci-fi and fantasy, but I also write inspiration romance for adults (nothing published in that area yet, but I’m working on it!).

What are some of the references you used while researching your book?

Katie: My book, Shadowed Eden, is set in the desert in Iraq. There was some geographic research I had to do, but also Biblical research about the history of that area. The book is a Christian YA fantasy/supernatural novel.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

Katie: I loved the mystery and intrigue that went into it. It was really fun to write!

What do your plans for future projects include?

Katie: Right now I’m working on a couple things: another YA fantasy series as well as that inspirational romance I mentioned earlier.

Thanks, Katie, for taking time to join us!

Katie is happy to offer a giveaway of Shadowed Eden, a PDF copy, to be chosen among those who leave a blog comment.

Shadowed Eden

High school senior Avery Miles is ready to spread her wings and ShadowedEden_ws11813_680
prove her worth on a mission trip to Iraq, but when their entourage gets blown off course in a dust storm in the desert, the group finds themselves lost in an inexplicable garden oasis. Along with the luscious fruits and crystal springs, Avery and her friends find poisonous snakes, deadly sink holes, and a group of natives that are almost unearthly—but that’s not their biggest problem.

No matter which way they trek, they can’t seem to leave. Avery steps up and takes charge to keep the group safe, but it isn’t long before she begins suspecting things aren’t as they seem. She isn’t the only one seeing the mysterious boy named Rae, and after following her father’s path in the jungle she’s pretty sure he’s sabotaging her rescue efforts. Gathering her courage, Avery must decide what’s most important to her—finally winning her father’s approval, or getting out of the jungle for good.
